Since its inception in 1991, Carlos Amezcua has been anchor of the highly-rated and much emulated "KTLA Morning News." An award-winning broadcast journalist, writer and television producer, Carlos is one of the most recognizable and respected anchormen in the Los Angeles market.
With a broadcasting career spanning nearly 30 years, Carlos has covered news around the world as a network correspondent for CBS and as an anchor/reporter in such major markets as New York, San Diego and Denver. He has also appeared on the "CBS Evening News" with Walter Cronkite, "NBC Nightly News" with Tom Brokaw, CNN and HBO's "America Undercover."
Carlos has been the recipient of numerous awards including seven Emmys for his journalistic efforts covering such stories as the devastating Northridge Earthquake, the Malibu Fires, the Mac Donald's Massacre in San Diego, one for "Outstanding Journalistic Enterprise" covering Mexican Politics and Best Daytime Newscast, among others. As part of the "KTLA Morning News" team, Carlos is the recipient of three prestigious broadcast journalism honors for Best Daytime Newscast: the Golden Mike Award from the Southern California Radio and Television News Association; and the APTRA Award from the Associated Press Television-Radio Association of California and Nevada.
Carlos is president of his own production company, Carlos Media, which produced the critically acclaimed "Comedy Compadres," the first all-Latino stand up comedy program in Los Angeles that aired on KTLA. He is currently writing and developing television and motion picture projects and has appeared in many films and television series including "7th Heaven" and "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer."
Carlos is also an accomplished artist. His oil paintings are exhibited at many art galleries and shows. In addition, he was chosen to carry out the official artwork for the 2006 Lexus Newport to Ensenada International Yacht Race.
Other on-air duties and appearances include guest-hosting radio sports shows, as well as serving as the on-air voice for the annual national Latin Grammy Awards broadcast. Also, musically, Carlos received a Gold Record for writing lyrics on the rock band Chicago's Christmas album.
A native of Southern California, Carlos is active in the community, volunteering at Children's Hospital Los Angeles and serving on various charity boards and professional organizations.
In his spare time, he also enjoys golf, surfing, skiing, watching hockey games and spending as much time as he can with his family. Carlos and his wife Mary have five grown children and two grandsons. |
